Debate Team Competes at National Tournament
UofL Debate Program Qualifies for Elimination Rounds at 2007 CEDA Nationals
Louisville, KY (March 26, 2007) — The University of Louisville National Debate Team returned yesterday from the University of Oklahoma, Norman where they travelled on Wednesday, March 21st to compete in the Cross Examination Debate Associate (CEDA) National Tournament which ended Sunday, March 25th. Two Louisville teams (Rosie Washington/Brian Huot and Aaron Price/Ebony Rose) qualified for the elimination rounds, each team winning 5 of 8 preliminary debates that took place on Thursday and Friday. The tournament started with 162 two-person teams from colleges around the country, with 64 teams competing in the elimination rounds on Saturday.
The team of Brian Huot and Rosie Washington advanced to the round of 32, where they were defeated by Kade Olsen and Kathryn Clark of Dartmouth College on a 3-0 decision. Dartmouth had an undefeated 8-0 record and was the 2nd seed out of the preliminaries. The team of Aaron Price and Ebony Rose tied for 33rd out of 162 teams and Huot/Washington tied for 17th place.
Rosie Washington was also named 16th best individual speaker, out of 322 total, while Aaron Price was named 42nd best individual speaker at an awards ceremony Saturday night at 7:30pm.
